When one looks at this bushland, one can only be thankful it still remains. Yet most of the bushland shown on this aerial photo is in fact on private land. Up until late last year much of the bushland on private land has been safeguarded by Buffer Zones imposed by the Lane Cove Council. These Buffer Zones were overturned and now every building application is looked at individually... Sometimes very individually, as is the case with 35 Innes Rd, where the Creek is as close as 5 metres from where the surveyor has taped the proposed edge of the approved building!
Dots indicate the approximate position of the Gore Creek & its tributaries. The Hygrocybe community begins approximately 100 metres downstream of 35 Innes Rd. Clearly visible are houses that completely encapsulate this biodiverse bushland.
35 Innes Rd is only the beginning. To save this bushland, as we know it today, for the next millenium, we must resist major new development in this bushland. We are not objecting to extensions which have minimal impact, but major new constructions which change this bushland forever. If we do not take a stand now, in 20 years time we could very easily see battle axe sections, with high-rise houses built down near the creek. Governments and Councils change, and so does the bush, unfortunately. It is up to residents and concerned citizens not to get caught up with prevailing apathy, and help save the natural heritage most people take for granted, at their doorsteps.
